#munifail

If you take Muni, you are in San Francisco and you are a Twitterererererer Tweeter? Whatever - you probably know about #munifail

Yes, every morning, afternoon and night there are loads of people tweeting/twittering? their complaints/rants about Muni's shortcomings.
One of my biggest gripes with Muni is that changes were to be made following Jan 1st.
The specific bus line I take in particular was supposed to have an upped frequency in buses. Guess what? My bus only comes ONCE every half hour.

I have to be in at work by 8am, ON THE DOT. If I am ONE MINUTE late, I get written up. Yes folks, ONE MINUTE. It has happened to other coworkers before I shit you not.

Tonight , I was ONE HOUR late for my brother's birthday dinner. First of all, the bus stop of the bus line I was trying to get on had been moved 3 blocks away. No biggie, I am able-bodied and did the 3 blocks. Then I sat down at the little bus stop and looked toward the electronic sign to see when the next bus would be coming.

Here's what I don't get . Isn't Muni supposed to be displaying the # of minutes until the next bus is coming? That's where I thought my tax dollars went. WRONG.  When I looked up, it said "PROPOSED MUNI CUTS. CALL 311 OR GO TO WWW.SFMTA.ORG FOR NEXT BUS, GO TO WWW.NEXTBUS.COM"

WHAT THE FUCK!?

Excuse me, but what about the elderly folk who don't have cell phones to call 311 or pda/smart phones to look up www.nextbus.com huh??! WHAT ABOUT THAT!? They don't have all the TIME left in the world to be sitting there (okay that was slightly morbid)  I took out my Blackberry but before the browser loaded, I spotted the bus coming. It wasn't full at all, just had about maybe 5 people on it?

THE BUS DID NOT STOP.

The other gentleman standing next to me at the bus stop was just as befuddled as I was. He even asked me "This is the bus stop right!??!" I told him I believed it was, but we both agreed we should try walking to the next stop. After walking about 6 blocks, I told him I gave up. It was now 5:40pm and I needed to be home within 20 minutes (which wasn't going to happen). I walked back towards Geary and the stranger told me "fuck the bus. i'm going to keep walking" Poor guy. I was walking back when I saw another 24 Divisadero bus coming. I decided to (again) wait at the bus stop.

THE SECOND BUS DID NOT STOP.

At this point all Hell broke loose and I gave up. I gave up. I GAVE UP!

YOU WIN OKAY GAVIN NEWSOM. YOU AND YOUR DAMN SHINY HAIR. YOU, MUNI, SF MTA, ALL YOU FUCKING WANKERS WIN!
I got on the 38L and got off at 25th & Geary. Luckily for me, the 29 had just arrived.

I got home at 6:50pm, an hour late.

You better believe that if I had been on my way to work, there would be more hell to pay. But I definitely feel more sorry for this person. 7am!? For fuck's sake. Every minute before 8am on a weekday counts for me. I am soOoOOo glad I stayed away from this mess!

damn budget

So the SFMTA meeting is going on at the moment. Services cuts and upped fee hikes, why am I not surprised?
I can say that my bus was supposed to come every 15 minutes starting Jan 1st but guess what? It only comes ONCE every THIRTY minutes. This is during commute hours by the way, as in BEFORe 8am.
I checked w/ www.nextbus.com and it appears that AFTER 8am (when i've already busted my ass to get to work on time), my bus comes once every ten minutes. Wow. Good job Muni.
